Pay tribute to your loved one with a dedicated memorial bench, a memorial plaque, or even a memorial bird bath in Priory Woods.
Remembering your loved one in Hull
When a loved one dies and chooses to have their ashes scattered, their family and friends may want to designate a space in their memory to visit instead of a grave.
A memorial, such as a dedicated tree or bench, can be a meaningful way to remember your loved one. It can give you a spot to visit and think about your loved one in an area that was significant to them, such as the town where they grew up or their favourite spot in the park.
In Hull, there are several ways you can set up a memorial for your loved one, including their own memorial bench, a commemorative plaque, or even a memorial bird bath in Priory Woods.
Find your funeral director in Hull who will help you arrange a cremation, and give you ideas for a meaningful memorial.
Memorialisation is the process of preserving memories of the person who’s died
This could be displaying a memorial plaque, scattering their ashes in a special place or having a bench created in their memory.
Memorial Bench
A wooden memorial bench may feel like the perfect way to honour your loved one. These can be placed at Eastern Cemetery, Western Cemetery, Northern Cemetery and Hedon Road.
Unfortunately, you cannot buy a memorial bench, but you can lease one. A memorial bench in Hull is available on a 10-year lease. However, the lease cost will not cover maintenance of the bench or the carving of dedications.
There are additional costs to consider such as the oiling of the bench, the carving of the inscription, and the installation of pavers. You can choose the option of three pavers or six, each with different costs. If you do decide to purchase a memorial bench in Hull, you can extend the lease after the initial 10 years if you’d like. Unfortunately, you cannot purchase a refurbishment package for wooden benches, but you can request personalised logos or pictures to be added.
You also have the option of dedicating a wooden memorial bench in Priory Woods to your loved one, and you can request a commemorative oak bench with a plaque. This comes with the same renewal cost as standard benches.
Another option is a memorial vaulted granite bench, a bespoke bench that you can lease for ten years.
For more information on the costs of memorial benches in Hull, it’s best to contact the council.
Memorial Plaque
Hull Council also provides a few options for memorial plaques to dedicate to your loved one. The Northern Cemetery Columbarium (which is a wall plaque only with no vault behind it) includes a new white marble or black granite plaque to lease for ten years.
Meanwhile, the purchase of a white or black plaque costs significantly less.. If you would like the plaque removed for any reason, then this can be done free of charge.
A hexagonal bench plaque on a commemorative seat with a 10-year lease costs £880, and it costs £430 to renew the lease. To add a new or extra plaque to the bench costs £150.
You also have the option of a vase block tablet in the Sunken Garden located in Chanterlands Crematorium. However, it is not possible to inter your loved one’s ashes into this memorial. This memorial vase block tablet is available inscribed in black or red which includes a ten-year lease and a posy vase.

Hull Council offers memorial bird baths in Priory Woods, and there are three rows of bird baths available. You can also purchase additional plaques for these bird baths, and you can buy these on either a 5-year or 10-year lease.
The bird baths range in prices from £300 to £500 depending on the row and length of lease you’d like, you can also request them to be refurbished and replaced further ahead if you so wish.
There is also an option to extend the lease after the initial period. The bottom row is the most expensive with the top row being the most affordable place to place a memorial bird bath in Hull.
